WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN A TIME OF COVID -19 CRISIS

Start date

The health and socio-economic crisis is hitting the most vulnerable groups of the population the hardest, among which, women who are particularly exposed to the impact of the pandemic. This has degraded the economic position of women in society, especially of those working in the private sector, but also their representation in key decision-making positions. Should we let the crisis deteriorate existing inequalities or can we use the recovery efforts and ensure women a far better position in the post-covid-19 world? The answer is clear - women are on the frontline of the pandemic and must be put in the driving seat of the recovery.

The upcoming event organised under the CEI Montenegrin Presidency comes 25 years after the historic turning point for the global agenda of equal rights, freedom, and opportunities for women - Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. It aims at deepening regional cooperation on women’s economic empowerment and meaningful participation and leadership in politics, with a focus on their role in international affairs. The discussion will contribute to the identification of key policies in order to address various socio-economic challenges women face in the CEI region.
