CEI Regional Conference on "Renewable Energy Sources and Their Applications"

On 27 October, the Minister of Economy of Montenegro, Branko Vujovic, opened in Podgorica a regional conference on "Renewable Energy Sources and Their Applications", organized under the Montenegrin Presidency by the Montenegrin Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Ministry of Economy and the Office of Sustainable Development of Montenegro.

As pointed out by Minister Vujovic, “Montenegro is currently implementing several projects which are important for the energy system, such as the hydro-power project on river Morača”. He also added that“The Government of Montenegro decided to sign the project contract for building an underwater transmission cable, linking the electric power system of Montenegro and other countries of the region with Italy.”   CEI Alternate Secretary General, Giorgio Rosso Cicogna, underlined the importance of a long-term strategy for eco-friendly energy. In this context, he mentioned SEDRI – a regional initiative in Sustainable Energy, jointly promoted by the CEI and the Regional Cooperation Council which aims at implementing small-scale sustainable energy projects. Mr Rosso Cicogna especially emphasised Next Generation Biofuels among the most favourable eco-friendly renewable energy sources.   Professor Dr. Momir Djurovic, President of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, underlined  that the production of clean energy is something that should be practiced much more than it actually is. “Clean energy is what we call renewable energy sources”, he stated.   The meeting involved experts from the region in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable development. It was attended by senior representatives of Ministries, Universities, Academies of Sciences, International Organizations and relevant economic and political institutions from the CEI Member States.
