Italy 6th-last for NATO spending

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, 14 MAR - Italy was sixth-last among NATO countries for defence spending last year with just 1.15% of GDP spent, far from the 2% target set by the alliance, NATO said Thursday. The only members who spent less than Italy in GDP terms were Luxembourg (0.54%); Belgium and Spain (0.93% each); Slovenia (1.02%); and Czech Republic (1.11%). The US were the top spenders again with 3.39% of GDP followed by Greece with 2.22%, Britain with 2.15%, Estonia with 2.07% and Poland with 2.05%. (ANSA).
