Metsola at the Polish lower house

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 06 NOV - "I am the President of the European Parliament, a mother of four, a daughter from a Mediterranean island, a patriot, and a pro-European, and there is no contradiction between these two terms," said EU Parliament President Roberta Metsola while addressing the lower house of the Polish parliament. The visit comes at a time of institutional chaos in the country. Metsola met separately with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the President of the Republic (represented by Karol Nawrocki). Metsola's remarks drew applause and murmurs from the Sejm, Poland's lower house, where, while the majority is pro-European, the sovereignist right, led by the Law and Justice (PiS) party, is also well represented. "You are Europe; now is the time to seize the moment, to summon the courage to return to the grand, bold, and daring ideas that defined our Union, and to rekindle enthusiasm and hope for our project," Metsola emphasised.
