
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 09 OTT - Mykhailo Tkach, head of the investigative journalism department at Ukrainian outlet Ukrainska Pravda, was arrested in Vienna while on assignment to track down fugitive Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. Tkach was in Austria with his colleague, Yaroslav Bondarenko. Ukrainska Pravda reported on the incident, stating: "The editorial team considers this detention illegal and demands his immediate release, as well as an official explanation of the actions of the Austrian law enforcement authorities." The Ukrainian Embassy in Austria has asked Austrian authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding Tkach's arrest. Georgy Tykhy, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, said that the ministry, the Consular Services Department, and the Ukrainian Embassy in Austria are all monitoring the situation. It was later revealed that the Ukrainian consul had gained access to and spoken with Tkach. Despite this, Austrian authorities continue to hold the journalist in custody. (ANSA).
