(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUG 25 - The Serbian National Assembly is meeting in extraordinary session following the summer recess to discuss a 59-point agenda, the majority of which concerns state budget adjustments. This includes a series of financial subsidies recently approved by the government through a specific law, which is currently being considered by parliament. This is a massive one-time financial assistance package for low-income families, pensioners, and other groups to alleviate the energy crisis and rising costs. Payments will be made beginning September 14, either automatically or via an application, depending on the group. The opposition in Parliament has criticised these measures as "pre-election handouts" that do not address family income issues. Pensioners in Serbia will receive automatic assistance in three levels based on their pension benefits. Economically disadvantaged families registered on official lists will receive family allowances of 25,000 dinars (approximately €213) for each child. Social benefits are also provided for disadvantaged groups, war veterans, and all adult Serbian citizens receive a one-time payment of around €50. (ANSA).
