(ANSA) - TRIESTE, JUL 29 - Investments in cybersecurity at the Port of Trieste have exceeded 2 million. It was announced by the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic, stating that it will serve as the lead partner in coordinating "Shieldport — cross-border cooperation for smart and resilient port security." With a total budget of approximately 1.37 million, the project—according to the Authority—is the only one dedicated to port cybersecurity funded under the third call for proposals of the Interreg Italy-Croatia Program 2021-2027. The Port of Trieste has been allocated 222,000 euros, fully covered by European and national funds. The project involves seven Italian and Croatian port authorities with the goal of strengthening the security of strategic infrastructure in the Adriatic through an integrated approach to protecting physical and digital systems. The Giulian Port Authority will coordinate the international partnership, the definition of a common strategy, and the development of shared tools to prevent and manage cyber risks at the participating ports. Activities will include vulnerability assessments, staff training, joint exercises, and the testing of innovative technological solutions. "With this new project, the Port of Trieste has surpassed 2 million euros in investments dedicated to cybersecurity," says Marco Consalvo, president of the Ports of Trieste and Monfalcone, "a decisive factor in competitiveness: investing in the protection of infrastructure and IT systems means making the port increasingly reliable and attractive to operators and major international logistics chains." Shieldport complements Podres—Resilient Digital Port, funded with 1.5 million as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) through the National Cybersecurity Agency, and to Cresport, funded with 368,750 euros under the Italy-Croatia Interreg Program and dedicated to protecting the digital systems of Adriatic ports.
