Kurti celebrates in Kosovo: "I'll form the government"

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUN 8 - Albin Kurti celebrated his election victory with supporters in Skënderbeu Square in downtown Pristina, complete with fireworks and drummers (tupana). He assured them that he could form a majority in parliament, despite receiving 42.92% of the vote (95% of the votes counted) with his three smaller allies and losing the absolute majority he had secured in December. In his speech to the cheering crowd, the outgoing prime minister promised to work with the other parties to resolve the presidential election, which concluded the previous legislative session. Yesterday's elections, in which only one-third of voters cast a ballot, did not alter party rankings, but rather their strength. Kurti's ruling party, Vetëvendosje (LVV, Self-Determination), a left-wing nationalist, lost nearly 6.5% of its vote since December 28, 2025. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK, successor to the pro-independence UCK militia) finished second with 21.06% of the vote, up 0.07%. The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is in third place, with the largest increase among the opposition parties thus far. According to preliminary results, this party, which ran former President Vjosa Osmani, received 17.61% of the vote, 4% more than in previous elections. Finally, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), which had barely crossed the threshold in previous elections, did so much more easily this time, winning 7.18% of the vote, or 1.5% more. Based on preliminary results, with the vote count nearly complete, the LVV will hold 48 of the Assembly's 120 seats, the PDKK 24, the LDK 20, and the AAK 8. The Srpska Lista (SL), which is competing for the ten seats reserved for the Serb minority, received 6.17%. (ANSA).
