Fantasy by Kukla wins Best Feature Film at the Trieste Film Festival

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 24 GEN - The Trieste Award for Best Feature Film at the 37th edition of the Trieste Film Festival goes to Fantasy by Slovenian director Kukla. The film follows three rebellious women in their early twenties on a journey that explores the complexities of gender, desire, and self-discovery, and was shot in part in Trieste, in the Rozzol Melara neighborhood. The awards ceremony is scheduled for this evening at the Politeama Rossetti, celebrating the achievements of the winners and inspiring pride among attendees. "Another special edition comes to a close today, one in which we welcomed more than 150 guests from 36 countries—voices and faces from Europe and around the world—featured across more than 150 films, along with over 100 students hosted in Trieste for the Academy and Journalism Lab, not to mention more than 700 film industry professionals who took part in When East Meets West," said Monica Goti, president of the organizing association Alpe Adria Cinema, and Nicoletta Romeo, the festival's artistic director. "Each year, the number of titles our audiences get to see here first continues to grow—films that will soon reach Italian theaters, thanks to national distributors who have accepted our invitation." According to the jury, Fantasy is a film that "weaves reality and imagination with lightness and vitality, telling a story that carries the audience along. With precision, respect, and empathy, it explores the challenges of being a young woman in a deeply traditional environment." The Alpe Adria Cinema Award for Best Documentary was given to Welded Together by Anastasija Mirošničenko, a painful family story about piecing together the past. At the same time, the TSFF Shorts Award went to The Spectacle by Bálint Kenyeres, a portrait of a young Roma boy searching for his own light. Among the films presented in competition, the Trieste Film Festival audience awarded Brat by Maciej Sobieszczański in the feature film category, Militantropos by Yelizaveta Smith in the documentary category, and Found & Lost by Reza Rasouli in the short film category.
