(ANSA-AFP) - BELGRADE, JAN 23 - Prosecutors in Kosovo said Friday that over 100 election staff had been arrested over "falsification" of voting results in a direct attempt to "subvert" last month's national poll. It comes after a full recount and a criminal investigation had been ordered into the Balkan nation's general election earlier this week after inaccuracies in the tallies were discovered. "We are talking about an organisation and a direct intention to subvert the results and the will of the citizens," Prizren prosecutor Petrit Kryeziu told media. Kryeziu said 109 election staff had been arrested over "falsification of election results", "intimidation", and "bribery", affecting around 70,000 votes. Certification of preliminary results, which showed caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti had won over half the vote, has taken weeks after a partial recount began in early January. But the country's Central Election Commission ordered a full recount Monday, with commission chair Kreshnik Radoniqi citing issues in the tallies for candidate MPs. According to the electoral commission, a recount found party vote tallies appeared to be accurate to the initial count, but discovered discrepancies in the amounts distributed to individual MP candidates.
