'Vilnius, Riga, and Warsaw will not allow Belarusian fertilizers through': Lithuania

(ANSA) - VILNIUS, 30 DIC - Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that Latvia and Poland would not permit their ports to be used for exports of Belarusian potash fertilizer, underscoring Lithuania's commitment to regional stability and security. Nausėda said he received the information unofficially during recent talks with leaders of the two countries. "The United States is on the other side of the Atlantic and acts based on geopolitical considerations different from ours. We, on the other hand, are here, and we know that to restrain aggressive states it is necessary not to give in to their diktats: they would see you as even weaker and more vulnerable," the Lithuanian leader said. This reflects Lithuania's focus on regional security and sovereignty in its policy decisions. In mid-December, the United States promised Minsk it would lift sanctions on potash-based fertilizers in exchange for the release of more than 100 political prisoners. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys immediately clarified that this U.S. decision would not affect Lithuania's stance, reaffirming that Vilnius would uphold European sanctions against Belarus and underscoring the country's adherence to EU policies.
