(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 3 - Cross-border cooperation between the Italian region Friuli Venezia Giulia, Carinthia (Austria), and the Veneto "takes a further leap forward with the adoption of a protocol that promotes sustainable mobility through public transport services by road and rail, with the integration of cycle paths," said today by the FVG Regional Councillor for Finance, Barbara Zilli, who, together with the President of the Region of Carinthia, Peter Kaiser, signed a Strategic Agreement for the planning and implementation of a sustainable cross-border mobility system, as part of the annual Assembly of the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) Euregio Senza Confini FVG-Veneto and Carinthia. The agreement governs the activation of cross-border public transport services, which are implemented through service contracts signed by the Region and the Land of Carinthia with their respective local operators, and includes both scheduled and flexible services. The system will also promote regional economic and tourism development, as well as improve accessibility to public transport and environmental sustainability, by strengthening connections with the cycling network and consolidating an integrated mobility model serving the border area.
