Vucic, 'I hope the EU condemns the resurgence of fascism'

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 22 NOV - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, referring to new episodes of ultranationalism and ethnic hatred in Croatia, said he was horrified by the resurgence of fascism in Europe and expressed hope for a strong condemnation of such expressions of hatred by the European Union. Speaking to reporters today on the sidelines of the opening in Belgrade of the fourth edition of the Wine Vision by Open Balkan fair, Vucic commented on the latest performance last night in Osijek, in eastern Croatia, by controversial ultranationalist singer Marko Perkovic Thompson, during which slogans and greeting formulas dear to the former pro-fascist Ustashe regime once again rang out, starting with "Za dom spremni" ("For the homeland - ready"). "I hope the EU will condemn the anti-Serb, antisemitic, and fascist chants in the heart of Europe," Vucic said. In Serbia, he added, fascism has never had a home and never will. "I can say that with pride." (ANSA).
