In Italy an investigation into Sarajevo's 'weekend snipers'

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOV 10 - They left Italy, paying "substantial" sums to Serbian soldiers to participate in the siege of Sarajevo and shoot "for fun" at Bosnian capital residents during the conflict. An investigation is underway in Milan to identify these "war tourists" who participated in the massacre of over 11,000 people between 1993 and 1995, according to Il Giorno and La Repubblica. The case, which Il Giornale had previously reported on in July, was opened by prosecutor Alessandro Gobbis on charges of voluntary homicide aggravated by cruelty and abject motives. Currently, the charges are against unknown individuals and stem from a complaint filed by journalist and writer Ezio Gavazzeni, with the assistance of two lawyers and former magistrate Guido Salvini.
