(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOV 4 - "Overall, 2025 was a year of significant progress towards EU enlargement. Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, and Moldova stand out: they made the greatest progress in reforms over the past year," said European Commissioner Marta Kos, presenting the annual enlargement report to the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee. Kos praised the four candidates' "ambitious goals," claiming that "successful enlargement is a realistic possibility in the coming years" given the rate at which they are moving through the accession process. "Montenegro wants to conclude negotiations by the end of 2026, Albania by the end of 2027, Moldova and Ukraine by 2028," she explained, adding that this year, "these four candidates have combined their ambitions with concrete action." "Next year will be a watershed moment for all candidate countries, but especially for those who have presented ambitious plans to complete the negotiations," the Enlargement Commissioner added, emphasising that "a united continent is the strongest response to those seeking to divide and destabilise Europe."
