Svevo's Masterpiece Published in North Macedonia

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 29 OTT - Italo Svevo's masterpiece, Zeno's Conscience, has been published in Macedonian for the first time by the Skopje-based publisher Ili Ili. The announcement was made by Alberto Gaffi, honorary president of the Trieste publishing house Italo Svevo. He has secured partners and financial backers for a project involving a Macedonian-language magazine and a series of European books under the Skopje 2027 initiative. As part of this project, Zeno's Conscience has been translated into Macedonian for the very first time. On its website, Ili Ili described the book as an "incredible novel" that allows readers to witness how an (un)successful attempt to quit smoking can evolve into one of the most emblematic works of world literature. Zeno, who is portrayed as "a man of vice, obsession, and neurosis," begins writing his memoirs as a form of psychotherapy to assist in his separation from cigarettes. The book highlights "elliptical episodes full of humor, shock, and illusion." Gaffi also announced that he has already met with new authors and has reached out to traditional artisanal paper mills that will provide handmade paper for their most prestigious publishing projects.
