New Schengen Entry and Exit System starting tomorrow

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCT 11 - Passport stamps will no longer be required upon entry into the EU beginning tomorrow. On October 12, the computerised entry and exit system for the 29 Schengen member states will go into effect. The new system will digitally record non-EU citizens' entries and exits, as well as passport data, fingerprints, and facial images, during short stays in European member states. The EU Council explains that the implementation will be gradual, with individual countries only able to implement the new system at specific border crossings. Implementation must be complete by April 2026. (ANSA).
