(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 6 - President Sergio Mattarella stressed the importance of multilateralism in achieving peace in his message to the 12th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference in Rome on Monday. "We observe numerous armed conflicts, afflicting peoples and areas close to us too, which we thought we had long since tucked away in the corners of our collective memory," the head of State said. "Eighty years after the founding of the United Nations, the universal aspiration for peace must once again become an urgent, shared goal of the entire international community. "It is a collective responsibility from which we cannot escape." "The friendship between Lithuania and Italy is truly profound, our collaboration is divided into all aspects and sectors; the cultural one is significant because it demonstrates a shared sensitivity between our countries and peoples.," said Mattarella, receiving the president of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, at the Quirinale Palace.
