Serbia, large military parade to show modernisation of army

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, SEP 20 - A large military parade was held in Belgrade today, as ordered by President Aleksandar Vucic, to demonstrate the Serbian Armed Forces' significant strengthening and modernisation. The parade, titled "The Strength of Unity," lasted about two hours and was broadcast live by public television station RTS. It featured over 10,000 soldiers, 2,500 weapons of various types, more than 600 military vehicles and equipment, 70 aircraft (including fighter-bombers, interceptors, and helicopters), and 20 units of the river flotilla. The parade, which concluded the events and initiatives for the Day of Unity, Freedom, and National Flag, celebrated last Monday in commemoration of September 15, 1918, when the Serbian Army broke through the Thessaloniki Front, laying the groundwork for the end of the First World War, was attended by President Vucic, Prime Minister Djuro Macut, members of the entire government, military leaders, Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, and foreign guests including the President.
