Czechia heads to polls, Babis single-party gov't favored

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, SEP 15 - According to a Median poll conducted for Czech Radio three weeks before the parliamentary elections, Czech citizens believe that a government supported by a single party rather than a coalition is the best outcome. The parliamentary elections are scheduled for October 3 and 4. Thirty-six years after the "Velvet Revolution" of November 1989, which deposed the communist KSC's single-party government, which had been in power since 1948, 41% of Czechs want a government led by former Prime Minister Andrej Babis' populist movement ANO, which is currently in opposition. A coalition formed by ANO and the Freedom and Direct Democracy Party (SPD) came in second with 37%. The current governing coalition, made up of the centre-right parties Together (Spolu), Mayors and Independents (Stan), and the Pirates, comes in third with 31%. Data collection took place from September 3 to 5, with 1,004 respondents. (ANSA).
