(ANSA) - ROMA, AUG 15 - "Italian citizen Alessio Laterza, who was arrested during one phase of clashes between police and protesters in Serbia, has been released and is reportedly not facing any charges. The Italian Embassy in Belgrade is handling his case and will verify the legal conditions of the compatriot with the Serbian authorities tomorrow." The Farnesina writes in a note. Laterza, 45, with temporary residence in Serbia, had been detained with other protesters last night. Meanwhile, in the Italian Parliament, EU Policy Committee Secretary Tatjana Rojc (Pd), in light of the latest violent clashes in Serbia, with injuries and arrests, said that "the increase in internal tension in Serbia is an element of concern for the risk of a heavy authoritarian stranglehold and ultimately for the stability of the country and the balances in the area. Within the limits of what is possible, action should be taken to persuade moderation and facilitate dialogue between opposing positions. Italy and the European Union should not overlook the consequences of an uncontrollable escalation of clashes nor the signals that continue to be given by historically influential powers." (ANSA).
