(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUG 13 - Albanian authorities ordered the immediate evacuation of the town of Delvina, in the country's south, which has been engulfed in flames on the hills above since yesterday evening. The situation appeared under control in the morning, but temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius and strong winds fanned the flames as they approached the town. Numerous firefighters and army units are on the ground, with two helicopters responding from the air. Pirro Vengu, the Defence Minister, is also closely monitoring the firefighting operations. The situation is also critical in central Albania, where fires have been burning since yesterday in the Gramsh area, spreading to at least eight villages. So far, 39 homes have been burned. Over 200 people were evacuated. Another village's residents were asked to evacuate today as well. Yesterday, the first victim was reported in this area: an 80-year-old man who died from asphyxiation. In the last 24 hours, 64 outbreaks have been reported, with 24 currently active. Ten thousand civil defence, firefighting, and military personnel have been deployed. (ANSA).
