Russia confirms support for Serbia on Bosnia and Kosovo

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUG 11 - Alexander Bocan-Kharcenko, Russian Ambassador to Belgrade, reiterated Moscow's full support for Serbia in Bosnia and Kosovo issues. "Moscow's position is entirely consistent with Belgrade's," the ambassador told the Serbian daily Politika. Bocan-Kharcenko specifically criticised Bosnian Serb leader and President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik's conviction in light of the country's difficult situation. He claimed that the conviction had nothing to do with law and order and was imposed with the intention of removing Dodik from politics and, ultimately, depriving Republika Srpska of its status and powers. Concerning Kosovo, the Russian ambassador also defended Belgrade, claiming that the Pristina leadership is still pressuring local Serbs, particularly in northern Kosovo, resulting in new crisis situations.
