GO!2025, jump pole vaulting in Italy and fall in Slovenia

(ANSA) - GORIZIA, JUL 26 - Never had a pole vault competition been held exactly on the border between two nations. The premiere was staged last night, between Gorizia and Nova Gorica, with "Jumping Overcoming Boundaries." At the Transalpina-Trg Evrope square, more than a thousand people flocked to witness an event that combined sports, history and culture. The bar was set right on the border between the two states, with trial participants taking the run-up in Italy and landing on the bag in Slovenia. In the past (since 1947) the square represented the border between Italy and Yugoslavia and, in addition, the ideological division between two worlds, that of Western and Eastern Europe. In 2004, with Slovenia's entry into the European Union, the part of the wall (so-called "of Gorizia") that divided the Transalpine into two was eliminated. Yesterday's event celebrated the union of two peoples and the breaking down of borders, as part of the events for Go!2025, Europe's first cross-border capital. Winning the competition, in the women's field, was Elisa Molinarolo (Fiamme Oro), with a season-best of 4.60, the same measurement as Slovenian Tina Sutej, reigning vice world indoor champion, who, however, made more mistakes. Among the men, Poland's Piotr Lisek came out on top with 5.72. (ANSA).
