UK sanction Balkan migrant traffickers

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 23 - The United Kingdom's first sanctions in recent days were imposed today against human traffickers and their alleged accomplices accused of fuelling the island's incessant landings of illegal migrants via the English Channel. The announcement was made today by Keir Starmer's Labour government, which supports the revival of the post-Brexit hard line previously promised by failed right-wing Tory governments. The measures come after a world-first sanctions regime was introduced into British law, specifically targeting people smugglers, traffickers to the UK, and anyone who facilitates their work anywhere in the world. The measures include the freezing and confiscation of vessels and any assets that can be traced by the authorities, as well as a ban on travel and any banking or financial relations with the country.
