Slovenia cancels referendum on military spending and NATO

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 19 - The Slovenian parliament has passed a last-minute resolution to cancel the referendum on increasing military spending, avoiding a potentially damaging split within the ruling coalition. After the Left and Social Democrats effectively sidelined their allies, the Freedom Movement, two weeks ago, thanks in part to decisive opposition votes, the largest governing party, led by Prime Minister Robert Golob, proposed holding a NATO membership referendum.
