(ANSA) - GORIZIA, JUL 2 - Speleologists from the "Seppenhofer" Karst Research Center, assisted by colleagues from the Cagliaritan Speleological Center, will leave on Friday, July 4, for the second Gorizian caving expedition to the Montenegrin mountains. "Montenegro Speleo Expedition 2025" is the name of the speleological research campaign, which will be framed within the framework of the program events of Go!2025, Gorica and Nova Gorica - European Capital of Culture. Until July 13, a speleological campaign will be conducted in the mountains of southeastern Montenegro, not far from the border with Albania. The area being examined is completely unexplored, especially from the speleological point of view, so the Gorizian specialists aim to bring back from the experience a detailed multidisciplinary study. The area that will be surveyed is quite large and lies between the Treskavac and Trepatljkov do mountains. While on the borders of Montenegro, the Gorizian cavers aim to do a thorough topographical survey and research of any newly discovered cavities and a reconnaissance on the ground to map the surface karst phenomenon in detail. Research on hypogeal fauna and observations on the typical vegetation of the area and its peculiarities will also be carried out. Drawing on their experience in the field in Friuli Venezia Giulia, speleologists from Gorizia for the first time will also be able to collect, in the area being explored, with the special equipment at their disposal, the physical data of the air and soils being examined: temperatures, acidity, presence of CO2 and especially the presence of Radon and radioactivity in the cave.
