Kosovo, new attempt to elect head of parliament failed

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 15 GIU - A new attempt, the 32nd, to elect the president of the new parliament resulting from the 9 February vote in Kosovo failed today. In fact, the chamber once again rejected the proposal of the majority party Vetevendosje (Self-determination) to vote by secret ballot. This decision was taken after Vetevendosje's candidate for the presidency, Albulena Haxhiu, was rejected several times in recent weeks, as she did not obtain the minimum of 61 votes necessary for election. A new attempt has been set for 17 June. Without the election of the president of the parliament, the formation of a new government cannot take place, and if the stalemate continues, new elections cannot be ruled out. (ANSA).
