Italian minister, 'from Cpr Albania repatriated 30 people'

(ANSA) - TRENTO, 25 MAG - "We are in the process of converting the decree law regarding Albania's CPR. Net of the people released from detention there are 30 people we have managed to repatriate. These are the first days but we intend to give momentum to provide functionality." Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said this while speaking at the Trento Festival of Economics. "And it does not correspond to the truth that we take migrants there who are only guilty of being in a condition of administrative irregularity, it is not so. We have repatriated people who were coming out of several years of prison for serious crimes, including rape, child pornography and whatnot. So we restrict in these centers only people who have social dangerousness. The center will ensure a very important functionality and we are waiting in the coming months for the decision of the European Court of Justice and the European rules on the matter in June 2026 to be able to use the rest of the facility as well," Piantedosi continued.
