Record drop in birth rate in the Czech Republic in 2024

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, APR 10 - Last year, the number of births in the Czech Republic decreased again. The Czech Statistical Office (CSO), which has been collecting population data since 1785, announced today that 84,311 children were born, the lowest number ever recorded. "The number of newborns in 2024 has decreased significantly for the third year in a row. The annual total of 84,311 is a new historical low, surpassing the previous figure of 89,471 in 1999," Statistical Office spokesperson Michaela Nemeckova told Ct24 television. (ANSA).
