(ANSA) - VIENNA, 19 MAR - The Austrian government, led by the coalition of the ÖVP (Austrian People's Party), SPÖ (Austrian Socialist Party), and NEOS (New Austria and Liberals), has announced a series of strategic measures to strengthen the economy and improve the country's education system. In a joint conference, Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP), Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler (SPÖ), and Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger (NEOS) outlined the guidelines of a plan that includes economic and social reforms (ORF.at). The government introduced a strategy to boost industry and skilled labor in the economic sector. Additionally, bureaucratic simplifications will accelerate the development of renewable energy and infrastructure, focusing on modernizing energy and administrative laws (Ministry of Economy). The reforms will also include raising the thresholds for direct public contract awards, aligning with European regulations. On the education front, the government has banned cell phones in schools up to the eighth grade starting May 1, aiming to reduce distractions and improve students' concentration. While schools may allow specific exceptions, the ban ensures that school areas remain free of electronic devices during lessons (Ministry of Education). At the same time, the government is committed to enhancing school digitalization through teacher training programs and introducing protected devices for students as part of the "Digital Learning" initiative.
