From France-UK ideas for peace, perplexed about troops: Meloni

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 2 - France and the UK supplied good ideas about a Ukraine peace plan at a London summit Sunday, Premier Giorgia Meloni said, but she voiced perplexity about using European troops to police any peace seal, she told reporters after the event. Meloni said the Franco-British proposals were not formally presented to the summit. "Presented? There are some ideas, I wouldn't say presented", she said when asked if there was a France-UK peace plan. "There are various proposals, I think that anyone who puts a proposal on the table is doing something useful at this time. Then there may be doubts about some proposals" such as "the use of European troops on which I have expressed doubts". But "there is the will to give everyone a hand and it seems very important to me at this stage", she added, reiterating that "the presence of Italian troops in Ukraine has never been on the agenda: I want to clear the field".
