(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JAN 20 - The dialogue between Slovenia, Italy and Croatia is "constructive" and "I would like to conclude with a slogan: together we are stronger," said Slovenian Interior Minister Boštjan Poklukar today in Nova Gorica. Poklukar spoke at the end of a trilateral meeting with his counterparts Matteo Piantedosi and Davor Božinović, where a memorandum was signed to implement mixed patrols of the three police forces at Croatia's European border. "We all want to remove border controls when the conditions are right," Poklukar stated. Among the topics at the centre of the discussion were the strengthening of the fight against irregular migrant trafficking, "the commitment to sign the agreement between Bosnia and Frontex" on irregular migration, and cooperation to combat international terrorism. Referring then to the Nova Gorica-Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025 and the controls that remain at the two countries' borders, Poklukar stated: "On the occasion of the events" of Go! 2025, "the police will work normally without complicating the lives of citizens and cultural events. We all want to remove border controls when the right conditions are met," he underlined. Božinović reported a 60% decrease in irregular migrants in Croatia during the first three weeks of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. In addition, 1,834 traffickers were arrested last year, a figure similar to the previous year but with fewer migrants, indicating that "we have increased activity in this area." "We know which areas of Croatia are experiencing increased migrant pressure; we must ensure a quick exchange of information between countries. Our cooperation provides for this. We will set up trilateral patrols with the priority to stop traffickers," Bozinovic said. He concluded, in agreement with his counterparts, that the ultimate goal is to "create a future without borders." (ANSA).
