Austria's extreme right booms in Burgenland, FPOe grows

(ANSA) - VIENNA, 19 GEN - The regional elections in the Austrian Land Burgenland took place today. The result for the far right was unexpected: Norbert Hofer's Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) won 22.8% of the votes, a leap of +13.0%. The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) of governor Hans Peter Doskozil is losing support, although remaining the first party with 46.7% (-3.3%). Josef Moser's Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) drops to 22.4% (-8.2%) and the Greens reach 5.6% (-1.2%). The final distribution of seats in the regional parliament will be defined in the next weeks.
