Hungary, 'US sanctions on Serbia are a serious challenge'

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, JAN 12 - "The outgoing U.S. presidential administration, which suffered a heavy defeat in the presidential election, recently imposed a new package of sanctions on the energy sector. These energy sanctions pose a serious challenge to Central Europe." This was emphasized by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjárto, referring to the new U.S. sanctions against the Nis oil group, in a statement relayed by Magyar government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs. "With Serbia's main oil supplier now sanctioned, crude oil supply in the region will shrink, potentially driving up fuel prices. This risks making people's lives more difficult and jeopardizing economic performance," the foreign minister explained, stressing that Budapest will work with regional partners to minimize the consequences.
