Kosovo: brawls and riots in parliament, Kurti contested

(ANSA) - BELGRADO, 13 LUG - Clashes and riots in the courtroom disturbed a speech by Kosovar premier Albin Kurti in parliament today in Pristina. As reported by the regional media, various opposition deputies on several occasions during the premier's speech dedicated to the situation in northern Kosovo made offensive remarks towards Kurti. The tussle broke out when one of the opposition deputies threw water at Kurti himself and Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi. Some ministers clashed physically and with no holds barred with opposition deputies. The security personnel promptly intervened, securing the premier, who was taken away from the courtroom. It is not the first time that incidents have occurred in the Kosovo parliament. In particular, the 'Self-determination' movement (Vetevendosje, nationalist left), led by Kurti, when in recent years it was in opposition to the government of Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, led a long-lasting campaign of obstructionism against the ratification of an agreement document with Montenegro (deemed harmful to Kosovo's interests), throwing eggs and other objects against the presidency and even releasing tear gas in the hall on several occasions to prevent voting operations.
