German inflation eases to 7.4% in March: official data

(ANSA-AFP) - FRANKFURT AM MAIN, MAR 31 - German inflation slowed to 7.4 percent year-on-year in March, preliminary data showed on Thursday, thanks to sharply lower energy prices. While food prices continued to show "above-average growth", the increase in energy prices had "slowed considerably" compared with March 2022, when Russia's invasion of Ukraine sent energy costs surging, official statistics agency Destatis said. In January and February, Germany's inflation rate had held steady at 8.7 percent. (ANSA-AFP).
