CEI supports conference on “Sustainable Energy Development in South East Europe” in Belgrade

''Sustainable Energy Development in South East Europe'', was the title of the conference held on 18 October 2013 in Belgrade and organised by Business Info Group under the auspices of the Serbian Ministry of Energy , Development and Environmental Protection.

During the event co-funded by the Central European Initiative (CEI), experts and representatives of institutions throughout the Balkans and Central Europe discussed the opportunities offered by South-East Europe, and in particular by Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fields of hydropower, solar and wind power.

Giorgio Rosso Cicogna, Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the CEI attended the meeting and recalled that renewable energy sources were ''a priority for the CEI'' and for all its member countries; an opportunity that must be seized, while making new efforts especially with regard to next generation biofuels, that could launch within ''New Europe'' a true ''bio-based economy''. Even in the most conservative scenario, Rosso Cicogna remarked that this new economy could create almost 40,000 stable jobs by 2030 and could attract foreign investments, while helping protect the environment and reduce the whole area's dependence on imported energy.
