15th CEI Dubrovnik Diplomatic Forum on “Diplomacy and Inter-cultural Dialogue”

This year’s CEI Diplomatic Forum, held in Dubrovnik on 24 and 25 May, focused on the role of diplomacy in an on-going inter-cultural dialogue. Experts and junior diplomats from the CEI region and beyond discussed potentials and benefits of better understanding inter-cultural communication in a regional, inter-regional and global context, where knowledge, research, innovation, education and training stand at the very centre of cooperation and development in general.
The Forum, a CEI flagship, was organized by the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, the University of Zagreb and CAAS Dubrovnik, in conjunction with the European Mediterranean University (EMUNI) and the University of East Anglia.
The CEI has traditionally paid strong attention to the promotion of intercultural dialogue and to the respect of cultural diversity. CEI Secretary General , Amb. Gerhard Pfanzelter, underlined that the Trieste based organization had over the years supported the implementation of a great number of multilateral projects through its Cooperation Fund, mostly related to Intercultural cooperation including the protection of minorities.   The Forum was closed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia Mr. Joško Klisović, who underlined the importance of the CEI Diplomatic forum and its relevance in training young diplomats. All participants agreed that the 15th CEI Dubrovnik Diplomatic Forum was a great success and expressed their highest appreciation to Amb. Mladen Andrlić, Head of the Croatian Diplomatic Academy.   ***

The Dubrovnik Diplomatic Forum started in 1998 as a pioneer project of the Central European Initiative (CEI) and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, together with the University of Zagreb and its Centre for Advanced Academic Studies (CAAS) in Dubrovnik. Over the years, the forum has turned into an important annual event, which gathers high-state officials, experts and academics, as well as young diplomats from the CEI Member States.
