Poroshenko signs the law on the Ukrainian state language

(ANSA) - MOSCOW, MAY 15 - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed the law on the Ukrainian language as a state language. ''I have a great honor and the unique opportunity to sign the law on the establishment of the Ukrainian as a state language,'' he said. According to Poroshenko the law ''will unite the nation'' and the Ukrainians have been waiting for this step ''for many, many years'', Tass reported. The move, however, risks exacerbating conflicts even more, especially in the Russian-speaking areas of the country, mostly concentrated in the south-east. (ANSA).
