Migrants: Fedriga, agreements on 'filters' in the Balkans

(ANSA) - LUBIANA - ''The European Union should play a more active role in throwing its political and economic weight behind a strategy to prevent departures and promote repatriation'', said the governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, on the sidelines of a meeting with Slovenia's deputy premier and foreign minister Miro Cerar. Fedriga and Cerar, according to a press release, have therefore shared the importance of acting ''to provide support to the states, primarily those in the Balkans, highly affected by the transit of migrants, in order to enhance their role as a filter, thus reducing the impact of flows on our territory''.
