(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUG 29 - The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals announced that it cannot yet specify when Ratko Mladić's remains will be handed over to Serbia, nor provide details on the circumstances of his death, as the investigation into his death and its circumstances—ordered by the Mechanism's president—is still ongoing and it is unknown when it will be completed. Tanjug reported, citing the Hague press service. However, it stated that it responded to a preliminary question about the medical care he received, affirming that it "exceeded the minimum international standards required." On Thursday, August 27, immediately after Mladić's death, the president of the Mechanism, Graciela Gatti Santana, issued an order assigning Judge Ian Bonomy to investigate the circumstances of Mladić's death, as reported on the Mechanism's website. Tanjug reported that it received a response from the press office in The Hague stating that "until the investigation is concluded, the details of Mladić's death are considered confidential, which is why the Mechanism is unable to provide further information. The handling of Mr. Mladić's remains is currently confidential, and the Mechanism cannot discuss it." The Mechanism's president, however, assessed that the comprehensive and humane medical care and assistance provided to Mladić in the prison hospital, including help with daily activities, "far exceeded the minimum required by international standards," Tanjug said.
