"This is because Germany and Italy have been working well together on migration issues and the implementation of the common asylum system for some time: in autumn 2025, we signed bilateral agreements with Italy and Greece establishing that the Dublin rules would be reapplied beginning with the Common European Asylum System's entry into force in June 2026. This means that expulsions under Dublin will also be carried out to Italy," she added, explaining that "currently, these mainly concern cases following the entry into force" of the new EU Pact.
