(ANSA) - GORIZIA, FEB 11 - An obelisk as a beacon of civilization, pointing the way to peace, a symbol of all peoples and all religions: a unique work of art, the result of the combination of different forms of creative activity, site specific, that is, designed precisely to be installed in a place as symbolic of the city's history as the Red House square. On the occasion of the European Capital of Culture 2025, Gorizia will welcome Go! Pharus, an artifact with a strong symbolic value: an obelisk dedicated to the culture of peace and overcoming divisions, an invitation to look to the future with hope and cooperation. The initiative was illustrated this morning by Mayor Rodolfo Ziberna. "One of the cornerstones of our mandate is the redevelopment of the Red House Square, a place that has historical significance for the city but has taken on a shabby appearance over the years. That is why we decided, as part of the restyiling of the area, to commission the creation of an ad hoc work of art. The obelisk has a deep significance as a hymn to life that will embellish the square," the first citizen explained, recalling that this will be one of the works that will remain after 2025. Conceived by Trieste-based interior designer and artist Celia Stefania Centonze, founder of the Milan-based architecture and interior design studio Plateam, the obelisk "will be a beacon of civilization, a reference for the city and a warning for the future, reminding us of the importance of overcoming borders, not only geographical, but also mental and cultural," she recalled. It will be embellished by an artistic intervention by Marco Nereo Rotelli, who will paint verses dedicated to peace, taken from the works of some of the greatest Italian and Slovenian poets, including Giuseppe Ungaretti, France Prešeren, Carlo Michelstaedter and France Bevk. Their words, etched in glass, will be transformed into a universal message of encounter and solidarity between peoples. (ANSA).
