EBRD approves 8.5 million EUR investment boosting power system in BiH linked to a 400.000 EUR-worth technical assistance financed by the CEI Fund at the EBRD

The CEI Fund at the EBRD -  fully financed by Italy - has recently approved the technical assistance project “Independent System Operator of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Consultant for the Project Implementation Unit”, with a financial commitment amounting to 400,000 EUR. The project will provide organisational and technical assistance to the Independent System Operator (ISO) of Bosnia and Herzegovina - the company responsible of managing the electricity transmission grid in the country - to ensure the successful completion of the EBRD’s investment project in accordance with the project implementation plan and the Bank's requirements stipulated in the loan agreement.

The implementation of these investments will support the creation of a competitive balancing and ancillary services market and will help to reduce both technical losses in the system and the carbon intensity of the energy sector in the country.

The financing will be used for supply and installation of new state-of-the-art IT systems that will allow ISO to perform its full range of operations, reporting and management of the power system in the most reliable and efficient manner, including the energy management system and the supervisory control and data acquisition system, a back-up control system, tailor made development and staff training in system use and maintenance as well as necessary additional measurement and communication systems. It also comprises a construction of the ISO headquarters in Sarajevo, where the national dispatching centre will be housed, together with the above systems.
