2 Million EUR Replenishment of CEI Fund at EBRD by Italy in 2012

The CEI Fund at the EBRD will be replenished in 2012 with 2 million EUR: the official announcement was released by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the last CEI Steering Committee Meeting on 27 April at the EBRD Headquarters in London.

Since 1992, Italy has allocated to the CEI Fund at the EBRD 34.5 million EUR and pledged, in spite of the international economic crisis and public budget constraints, additional 2 million EUR in 2012, for projects and activities fostering economic and democratic transition in non-EU CEI Member Countries.

“The CEI Fund at the EBRD represents a success story of cooperation relations between Italy and the EBRD”, said Couns. Elena Sgarbi, representative of the Italian MFA at the Steering Committee.

Between 1992-2011 the CEI Fund generated international investments of more than 4 billion EUR in the CEI region. Therefore, it has “greatly contributed to enhancing the role of CEI acting as an anchorage of the European perspective of CEI non-EU Member States as well as  a catalyst for the economic development and stability of these countries”, underlined Couns. Sgarbi.

The Steering Committee approved the 2012 Budget for the CEI Fund at the EBRD, forecasting a commitment of more than €2 million to implement technical cooperation and know-how exchange projects.
