CEI Attends Annual Meeting of Regional Cooperation Council

The Annual Meeting of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) was held in Budva on 28 June 2011 under the Montenegrin Presidency, followed by a Foreign Ministers Meeting and the Summit of the Organization in Sveti Stefan (Montenegro). CEI Alternate Secretary, Mr. Giorgio Rosso Cicogna, who attended the meeting, emphased the readiness of the Central European Initiative - the oldest regional Organization with the broadest membership (18 countries of the Region) - to strengthen its cooperation with similar organizations in the region and, more specifically, with RCC.

CEI and RCC have already signed a framework agreement and last year launched a joint initiative in the field of sustainable renewable energy. The Central European Initiaitve is ready to intensify  this cooperation in the field of energy and extend it to other fields, such as science and technology, transport and logistics. This development would be in line with the recommendations of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs who met in Trieste on 10 June 2011, and with an overall stronger role in the region.

Next year’s RCC Presidency will be held by Serbia.
