FAO – CEI Cooperation: Transferring Know-how from Italy to Montenegro

Under the CEI Know-How Exchange Programme, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) carried out a project to facilitate the know-how transfer from experts and local Italian stakeholders to a delegation of seven officials from Montenegro.

The project consisted in organising a study tour in Italy on “Farming and off farming activities in mountainous areas and natural parks”, taking the Italian case as an example. The tour, which took place from 7 to 16 June 2011, included a seminar at FAO Headquarters and visits of the Gran Sasso Natural Park, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Valle d’Aosta Region.

The activities constituted an effective learning and team building experience giving the delegation the opportunity to get an in depth knowledge and understanding of the various successful development practices and strategies that could be applied in their home country. Special attention was paid to natural parks management, sustainable tourism development, management of forestry resources and stimulating measures for agricultural development. A short video has been prepared by FAO to document the project.
