Slovenia: EU-Balkans summit in October

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUN 30 - One of the key events during the Slovenian presidency of the EU will be an EU-Western Balkans summit, to be held in Slovenia on October 6, the Slovenian news agency STA reported. The goal is to achieve a breakthrough by September "in terms of the EU accession negotiations with Northern Macedonia and Albania," Slovenia's Permanent Representative to the EU Iztok Jarc said, STA wrote. This would provide for "a better atmosphere at the summit" but one "should first wait for the results of the parliamentary election in Bulgaria," Jarc added. Jarc noted that there is also interest in the expansion of the Schengen area to Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria. (ANSA).
