(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 19 OTT - In 2025, the Ponte Galeria detention centre (Rome) saw 1,203 arrivals and 165 repatriations, for a repatriation-to-arrival ratio of 13.7%, down from 14.9% in 2024. While arrivals rose by 6.7%, repatriations decreased from 168 to 165 (-1.8%). The Gjadër detention centre in Albania, also under the jurisdiction of the Rome Prefecture, recorded 307 arrivals (transferred from other Italian detention centres) and 59 repatriations, with a rate of 19.2 percent. Both figures fall below the national average of 25.3%. These findings are based on an update (as of December 31, 2025) to the "Trattenuti" (Detained) open-data platform, as detailed in *Expulsions: An Analysis of Italian Repatriation Policy, 2015-2025*, a new report produced by ActionAid Italy and the Department of Political Science at the University of Bari Aldo Moro. This analysis is based on information provided by the Rome Prefecture. According to ActionAid, at least 7.4 million euros in ancillary expenses have been documented for the Albanian centre from 2025 to April 2026, covering transportation, security, the justice system, and healthcare. In 2025, the detention-related cost per individual repatriation at the Gjadër complex reached 68,116 euros, more than four times the equivalent figure for the Ponte Galeria facility. This calculation excludes the costs of transferring individuals from Italian detention centres (CPRs) to Albania, as well as the costs of returning them to Italy—a round-trip process that adds another layer of public expenditure that cannot be precisely estimated.
